What is it?

👉🏿👉🏽👉🏻 A cape.

It's pretty fascinating how quickly behaviors change when you bust out the ol' cape trick.

👉🏻How does it work?

First you make it very clear to them what each quality LOOKS LIKE…

GET EXPLICIT

👉🏿Kindness:

means being a good friend…

it means you ask “are you ok” when you see someone get hurt..

it means you smile at people…

👉🏽Patience:

means you can wait in a calm way,

so when you raise your hand,

your body is still

and you aren’t making any noise,

you’re being patient.

When you are standing in line,

your body is calm,

your feet are still,

you are standing patiently!

👉🏿Once they are clear on what each quality LOOKS LIKE…(meaning they know EXACTLY what they need to do and say — to show each quality)

THEN, you bust out a cape

👉🏼You can use multiple if you’d like…

I used different colored capes for different qualities:

💚 green is for hard workers

💛 yellow is for being a good friend

👉🏼You can use capes to teach ANY QUALITY you’d like…

As long as you make it clear to your students WHAT THAT QUALITY LOOKS LIKE…

Because then, they know what they need to do TO GET TO WEAR THE CAPE!

And so — When you finally bust out the capes…

You spot a kid exhibiting the qualities and put the cape on them

They wear it for awhile and then (the best part) THEY get to pick another kid who's exhibiting the same quality.

THEN, They pass it on.

  • working hard

  • perseverance (trying when things are hard)

  • sharing

✨ You can use capes to teach ANY QUALITY you’d like — as long as you make it clear to your students WHAT THAT QUALITY LOOKS LIKE…

“There is a superhero in all of us.. we just have to be brave enough to put on the cape.”
